New Millennium Music asked WAKE THE SUN members to describe the band and what they have been up to and below is what they had to say –

WAKE THE SUN: “Hey everybody! This is John and Tommy from WAKE THE SUN. John plays keyboards for the band and Tommy plays lead guitar and sings background vocals. We were out on our first national tour back in February and March of this year, and we’re packing and preparing to leave again for another national run. This time we’ll be ducking into Canada for a few days and hitting some repeat cities, as well as a bunch of new ones. We have our opening show this Sunday, 9/20 at the Bowery Electric in NYC and from there we’ll be heading out for seven weeks from coast to coast.”

“Just to get you guys up to speed with how we came about: founding members Dillon Mealey (Lead Vocal and Rhythm Guitar) and Jeff Alvarado (Bass Guitar) met in college and worked in various projects together. After college, they both moved to Long Island to form a project they felt passionate about. After a failed attempt, the remaining members formed WAKE THE SUN, and we joined the band not too long after. John was found on a railroad track with only a shirt, a smile and a nickel to his name. Tommy Gun was found trapped in a gutter playing quick licks on his homemade six string. We’ve been playing together for a little better than a year. We’re excited to be sharing the stage with guest Drummer Kyle Conlon for this tour.”

“We released our self-titled EP to coincide with our past tour in February. It is available on Itunes, Spotify & Amazon. We’re very excited to announce that our music video for our single “Grace and Faith” will world premieres this month online at Pure Volume. We’ve been working on some new material and tightening up our set with our current lineup. Our plan upon returning from tour will be to hop into the recording studio to work on a full length.”

John’s Take on the EP:

“Wicked Souls gives WAKE THE SUN a nice big, fat introduction. It’s a hard hitting, riff heavy, catchy song. It definitely showcases Wake the Sun’s harder rocking side. Grace and Faith bridges Wicked Souls and Politics perfectly. It’s a bit sweeter than Wicked Souls, but still rocks hard. Politics is my personal favorite track on the album. It showcases the depth of the band, musically and lyrically. Wicked Souls (Montclair Session) is interesting because it features the current lineup of musicians in WTS. The other tracks had been previously written and recorded. I wasn’t sure how Montclair Sessions would mesh with the other tracks on the EP because of the lineup changes and the fact that it was recorded at a different studio than the other 3 tracks, but I ended up happy with the result. I think it’s a really fresh take on Wicked Souls.”

Tommy’s Take on what’s next:

“I’m really excited to be heading out on the road for 40 shows. I can’t wait to be back on the West Coast, and playing every night is my kind of lifestyle. Having said that, WAKE THE SUN is already formulating our plan of action for our homecoming in early November. We’ll be jumping into the studio to start laying down new material we’ve been working on. It seems we’ve really been in a creative stream churning out some great song ideas. I’m also looking forward to coming home to Long Island and playing some hometown shows. Purely getting out playing stages, meeting people and making connections has been an absolute pleasure in the past year. I’m excited to come home and work hard towards what is next.”
