Tokyo Denmark Sweden – New Music And Interview
Tokyo Denmark Sweden’s new 2014 EP, Turning Time, was released on January 6th, 2014.
Answer: “Amy, Chris, and Tom are Tokyo Denmark Sweden. We’re an Indie Dance band hailing from Sydney, Australia. Our sound is a definite mash of ethereal synths, throbbing bass lines and dance floor beats.”
NMM: What are the origins of the singing and vocals?
TDS: “Amy has been singing since she was young and started writing songs in her early teens. We’ve all been kicking around in different rock bands since early high school. We were first introduced to electronic music as teenagers, and it’s steadily grown on us. We started writing and producing tracks which moved more into dance music two years ago and have focused on it ever since.”
NMM: How did you meet?
TDS: “We all met randomly at a house party on the Gold Coast in Queensland. We bonded over a common love of Kanye West and Passion Pop. We’ve been close friends ever since. After our first EP (Tokyo Denmark Sweden), our second dip into the music world is Turning Time. It’s a big dancey single that we wrote late last year and we’re really happy with how it turned out. It was mixed by production genius Mark Saunders, out of New York, who’s worked with a bunch of awesome bands, including The Cure. We loved working with Marc, who really brought the song to life!”
NMM: How has the overall beginning and progress been?
TDS: “We’ve had an awesome first two years, one of the definite highlights was our tour with Sonic Animation along the east coast of Australia. Supporting Rufus and playing Peat’s Ridge NYE festival were also great moments.”
NMM: Anything else on top of that?
TDS: “We also decided to give this single, the real electronic club treatment. So we contacted some of our fave electronic club wizards to remix the track and the results are amazing! The new EP is now available everywhere (incl. iTunes, Beatport, etc.)!”
NMM: What kind of future plans have been identified?
TDS: “2014 is going to be a massive year for us. We’re already planning some single releases, a stack of touring, and hopefully a few festival slots. We’d love to record a full length album, and do some international touring next year (especially a trip to the U.S. – Yew!)”
