The debut album The World Was On My Side by Rob Jennings was released on June 30th, 2017. He plays every instrument on the album except drums, which are played by long-time friend Chris Badami (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Interscope Records). The World Was On My Side is a follow up to the 2015 The Boulevard Gone EP and features the single “Shamed”.
About the album, Rob says “Half of the songs on the album were actually written about 6 or 7 years ago. I still felt that they were strong songs and I knew I wanted my debut album to feature most of them. The rest of it was sort of filling in the blanks, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. It wasn’t out of laziness. It was me thinking about how I could make everything feel cohesive and have a nice flow. That’s where I got the idea to write the mini songs that connect to the larger ones. Hopefully it’s seamless when you’re listening and you can’t tell when one track ends and another begins during most of it. I’d say 80% of the album is about me getting things off of my chest. The subject matter literally starts with my childhood and continues on into recent issues or memories that stuck with me. Unfortunately, a good chunk of it is bad memories, but that’s ok because I’d like to think I made something positive out of it.”
