Rival Shapes – New Music
The band Rival Shapes released the single and music video “Evaporate” in mid-April from their EP, Pull, out May 23rd, 2017.
Director of the music video, Nick Duarte of Crown Chimp Productions states: “We talked a lot about metaphor with this one. We wanted to make something that embraced the abstract and would allow us to create images that the viewer could just sit in. Which is pretty similar to our experience with the track. It’s something you just soak in. We also wanted to find a loose narrative to structure the idea around. And of course work within the budget. We pitched three ideas to the band and they picked the Shibari one because they’re a bunch of perverts. The shoot was very small- just our core team and a couple interns and a macro lens. We found a lot of different ways to manipulate the footage in post. I’m a fan of taking things as simple as flipping the image and playing with overlays and seeing how far those simple cinematic techniques can be pushed. That style really helped hone in on the idea of confusion and being inside of the moment. It was a super fun project to work on and the band was really easy and enthusiastic to work with.”
The band had this to say about working with a production company for the making of the video: “They undoubtedly took a close listen to the song and came up with a number of concepts for us to chose from, and we went with our favorite and gave them the reigns from there. They were artful and professional from start to finish. We can’t wait to work with them on another video!”
