Originally from Reno, Los Angeles cultivated and now Nashville-based alternative/blues rock artist Jack Berry released the single “Bad Dog” from his upcoming LP titled Mean Machine, due out May 13th, 2016. The single “Coal” was released in early April of 2016 as well. Jack has recently been performing in various locations for large crowds including North by Northeast in Toronto, New York City’s CMJ Music Marathon and SXSW’s Red Gorilla Festival. The following is what Jack Berry had to say about the new music:

“The thing about this new record is its actually a concept album. The lyrics call back to each other through different songs. The stories are cohesive. The riffs are relative throughout. The rise and fall of tension and release isn’t just a trend, it’s a character trait of Mean Machine, out May 13. It’s brutally honest. It’s ferocious. It’s blues with a punk backbone.

These songs almost scare me, I can’t lie. They’ve become their own and to be able to pull off the amount of guts and grunt it takes to do these songs justice live…I mean you really have to mean it. People see right through bullshit so I got rid of it all to start and there’s no where to hide. Not a shred of shame here. Conviction bubbles over on this one.

I’ll be playing at Mercy Lounge on May 7th to welcome the new album.”

“Bad Dog” lyrics:

You can write your name in the water
But you ain’t hardly got the sand
You can lead your sheep to slaughter
But you won’t get my helping hand
And you can love your maker
From the top of every post that you place
And you can weigh your bacon
But keep your goddamn grease off my plate

You keep saying I’m built for a cage
And I have been all along
(good reason – there’s a real good reason)
That I’m astray in my ways
And wandering off
(good reason – there’s a real good reason)
But I’ma keep drinking and playing my games
I’m good when I’m gone
(good reason – there’s a real good reason)
My bite is just as big as my bark
‘Cause I’m a bad dog

My sun rises in the evening
My gun cries in the night
But you won’t hear because you’re too busy sleeping
Dreaming you’ll wake up in your stories on high
And I love my neighbor
We get un-lonely tip dawn
And I’ll run this caper
Making a living off of proving them wrong

You keep saying I’m built for a cage
And I have been all along
(good reason – there’s a real good reason)
That I’m astray in my ways
And wandering off
(good reason – there’s a real good reason)
But I’ma keep drinking and playing my games
I’m good when I’m gone
(good reason – there’s a real good reason)
My bite is just as big as my bark
‘Cause I’m a bad dog
