Hayley Kiyoko – New Music

In late 2016, singer/songwriter/director Hayley Kiyoko released her label debut EP CITRINE with Atlantic Records. On the second leg of her ‘One Bad Night Tour’, she performed at the Hawthorne Theater in Portland, OR on Saturday, 3/11/2017 for her first time in the city and it was a sold out show. The opening band was flor (florsounds.com).

Hayley writes her own music and got signed to a label in August (2016). She states, “It happened. If you focus and have realistic goals, you can get where you want to be. That’s still what I do to this day. Throughout the process, I learned my essence is essentially speaking the truth and writing music that tells stories as well as covers extraordinary, sometimes taboo concepts and themes in pop music.” The title, CITRINE, represents an important turning point in her life. After suffering a concussion, she discovered a wall adorned with orange quartz. About the experience, she states, “It’s been a long journey back to health. The stone has such a positive energy for me. It’s supposed to get rid of negative feelings and turn them into positive ones. I can’t explain it, but I looked at it, and it just centered me. It gave me something to believe in. I’m hoping the EP enables listeners to turn that negativity into positivity and feel self-empowered, confident, and happy.”

The track and music video “One Bad Night” was the first release from the CITRINE EP.
